My Most Used Recipes

This is my collection of  my most used simple recipes that can help you go zero waste.  They are often staples which are also used to make other foods or they are an easy way to use up leftovers.

When baking and cooking I often sequence things so I can reuse pans without needing to wash them -- for instance, I'll make dog treats first, then granola, and finally chocolate chip cookies because the dog treats leave the pans pretty clean, granola just leaves a little on the pans, but chocolate chip cookies leave somewhat more on the pans and chocolate is not good for dogs.

Note especially that I make my own brown sugar and sugar syrup -- two basic staples in a lot of cooking. Purchased brown sugar usually comes in a plastic bag and most syrups in plastic bottles whereas granulated sugar comes in paper and molasses in glass (with a plastic cap).  The maple flavoring I use from McCormick does come in plastic pint but generates about 100 quarts of syrup.
